David Nyamwaya holds a doctoral degree in medical and development anthropology from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. He has just stepped down as the World Health Organization's Regional (AFRO) advisor for health promotion. In this position Nyamwaya facilitated development of national health promotion policies, programmes and curricula in most of the countries of the AFRO Region.
Prior to joining joining WHO AFRO, Nyamwaya was director of Health Behaviour, Education and Promotion at the Nairobi-based African Medical Research Foundation where he, among other things, provided leadership in participatory research and training for health development and management of community level health programmes.
He has taught health development courses in Kenya, South African and Sweden as well as being a visiting scholar in Nigeria and Japan.
Nyamwaya has published on a wider range of health and development subjects and is a corresponding editor of Health Promotion International. From January 2010, Nyamwaya is an independent consultant for the African Region.
