Developing a public health strategy

Members of the team worked on a project funded by the World Bank which delivered the first public health strategy in Albania. The strategy had a particular focus on health promotion and tobacco control.

The team worked closely with the Ministry of Health and the Institute of Public Health and developed a process for engaging with public health leads across the country.

The strategy was successful in setting a clear agenda for delivery in the difficult context of a country in rapid transition and low resources. Expertise was offered in sourcing relevant health information and analysis, in developing tobacco control strategies, and in a range of health improvement approaches. Twinning links were set up between organisations in the UK and Albania.
